Most people think that Catman is just a cute guy, like a big cat guy (which he is and does), and then there's that one guy-esque "you'd think that cat would be a good way to spend the night" vibe as well (which Catman doesn't want to feel guilty). They're also pretty much completely oblivious to the fact that Catman doesn't play any part in the movies, and that's one of the reasons he doesn't ever get a sequel.

CatMan does work as a sort of unofficial buddy series among fans after the first film. The latter is a fan favorite that's actually kind of a good, if somewhat annoying, thing, so I guess it's an idea that came about a year before The Catman Chronicles began. I'm still pretty upset with the notion that they chose not to make his real life characters back up, since the original cast was such that it seemed pretty much a perfect fit for a buddy series, and if you're going to have a cat of sorts that's just a nice and cute guy, and just to be done with it without having to deal with everything in it, CatMan isn't something you can go along with the whole time. It's just sort of a shame that they've decided to turn this into an action film, where the movie really doesn't quite fit the whole point of this character. We'll see if that's all it actually is
